UVU ID Card with Door Access

Important Update: Door Access Credential Changes at UVU
Utah Valley University is updating how door access is managed across campus to improve security, consistency, and convenience. These changes affect how door access is issued and used but do not change how ID cards work for other campus services. DO NOT REQUEST A NEW DOOR ACCESS CARD IF YOU HAVE CURRENT KEY FOB UNTIL IT EXPIRES OR LOST YOUR CARD.

This update applies only to door access. Current UVU ID cards will continue to work for:

  • UTA Transit
  • GreenBucks
  • Library Services
  • SLWC Memberships

A new UVU ID card with door access capability will be issued only when door access is required. If a role or course does not require door access, the standard UVU ID card will continue to be issued.

This new ID card combines door access and existing campus ID features into a single credential.

UVU ID Card with Prox Access

A UVU ID Card with Prox Access can be issued only if you do not already have an active prox (door access) key fob.
Prox access functions the same on both devices; you only need one active credential.

Cost

  • New UVU ID Card with Prox Access (first time / never had a prox device): $10
  • Expired prox key fob or expired prox card: Eligible for a UVU ID Card with Prox Access for $10
  • Replacing an active prox key fob with a UVU ID Card with Prox Access: $20
(This applies when your current fob is still active and you choose to switch to a card.)

Who Should Request This Card

  • New employees who need prox access and have never been issued a prox key fob
  • Individuals whose prox key fob or previous prox card has expired
  • Employees approved by their department for a card‑based prox credential
  • Anyone who has never previously held a prox access device

Before You Request

Check with your department or supervisor to verify whether you currently have an active prox key fob assigned to you. If you do, you may:

  • Continue using your existing key fob at no cost, or
  • Replace it with a UVU ID Card with Prox Access for a $20 fee

If your key fob or prox card has expired, you are eligible for a $10 prox‑enabled ID Card.

HID Mobile App Changes

  • The HID Mobile App will no longer be supported after March 31. If the HID Mobile App stops working before that date, the door access ID card will be required as the replacement for door access.

Older Door Readers
Some buildings still use older door readers that support earlier ID card technology. These readers are being phased out and replaced. Departments affected by these readers have been notified and are being contacted as part of the replacement and upgrade process.

  • Once a reader is replaced:
  • A new ID card with door access will be required, or
  • Door access may be added to an active fob, if applicable

How Door Access Is Added

  • Follow the guidelines for photo submission and identification above.
  • Department Admin completes the Departmental ID Request Form.
  • Either Admin or individual can pick up your ID card from Campus Connection.
  • Contact your department’s Key Administrator to request door access.
    • Every department has a designated Key Administrator, typically Department Admin.
    • Key Administrators are responsible for submitting door access requests.
    • Once approved, door access will be added to your ID card.

Campus Connection does not assign door access—all access requests must go through the Department’s Key Administrator.

The Why Behind the Change
This update:

  • Improves security by using more up-to-date credential technology
  • Increases convenience by reducing multiple door access methods
  • Creates a single, consistent process for issuing and managing door access across campus
