UVU's online courses use the same curriculum as in-person courses, so they're not easier or harder. That said, being a successful online learner requires a different sort of motivation and self-discipline than in-person classroom learning. Online students must be comfortable in a self-regulating learning environment that lacks the regular reminders and immediate feedback often associated with a traditional classroom. UVU’s Online Readiness Survey is a self-assessment that helps you gauge your readiness and provides tools and resources to improve your online learning experience.
UVU uses Canvas, a web-based course management platform, for all of its classes—online and in-person. If you start fully online, and decide to take a few in-person classes (or vice-versa), you don't need to learn a new classroom system. The Canvas classroom interface supports an engaging and meaningful learning experience, but as with any technology platform, the more familiar you become with it, the more intuitive and convenient it becomes. We recommend that you complete the Canvas tour before classes start.
To truly be successful as an online learner, you'll need to be good working on a computer and be comfortable in a digital environment. At a minimum, you need a computer and a high-speed internet connection, and software that allows you to complete a variety of educational activities. All enrolled UVU students receive Microsoft 365 free of charge. Additionally, all UVU students have free access to LinkedIn Learning resources where you can learn crucial computer skills and increase your digital literacy.

Upon admission, one of your first tasks is to connect with your assigned academic advisor to discuss your educational goals, create your degree completion plan, and prepare for course registration. After that, you’ll connect with them regularly for guidance and encouragement as you make important decisions about your educational goals and major.
Throughout your journey, your advisor will be your point of contact for academic and administrative support, clarifying university policies and procedures and pointing you toward the resources that will help you be successful in your online college journey.
Registration Services provides resources, tools, and solutions for student registration and related processes. They can assist you with adding and dropping classes, requesting a change of personal information, swapping class sections, ordering a transcript and more.
UVU partners with in-state and out-of-state colleges to help you get as much credit for your previous work as possible. We’re dedicated to helping you maintain your momentum toward graduation.
Fully online students attending Utah Valley University while living outside of the state will pay an online out-of-state tuition rate. Fully online students living within the state of Utah are subject to conventional residency rules. Your initial residency classification will be determined during the admissions application process. Once admitted, your admissions letter will include your residency designation.
The Academic Tutoring Office is one of several on-campus tutoring departments that help you build academic skills and achieve success. They focus on building lasting study strategies that empower students as they progress toward their academic goals. Academic Tutoring provides a Science Lab, a Business Lab, and a CET Lab. Online and in-person appointment options are available.
Academic Coaching provides students a consistent, one-on-one partnership, so you can improve academic strategies and habits and get help managing your school/life balance. Coaching encourages taking action toward goals and self-insight. Coaches recognize students as the experts of their lives – naturally creative, resourceful, and whole.
The UVU Writing Center will work with you on any assignment at any stage of the writing process. The Writing Center helps you increase your understanding, ability, and confidence as a writer. Writers at all levels--emerging to advanced--will benefit from working with a trained writing consultant.
The UVU Math Lab will help you better learn and understand mathematics. They strive to be friendly and welcoming, and will help you build a foundation of study skills to help you in your math course and become an independent math learner.
Students enrolled in language courses at UVU may access the Language Hub and tutoring services in American Sign Language, Chinese, ELL, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
The Fulton Library provides a wide range of services online to support all of your research needs. Using the online "Ask a Librarian" feature you can chat real time with a librarian for help with various stages of your research. Help is available in the evenings and on weekends.
The Service Desk can assist you with questions about technology-related issues, Canvas issues, registration, records, and general information. They can be contacted via phone or live chat.

UVU Student Health assists students with a variety of health-related issues, helping you manage your well-being by providing low-cost basic medical care, mental health services, psychiatric care, learning disability assessment services, and crisis services. Many telehealth services are available for online students unable to access the clinic.

Balancing school, work, and life obligations can be stressful. Though not meant to replace face-to-face care when needed, UVU offers a selection of self-help resources to help you cope with day-to-day stresses and difficult periods in your life.
In partnership with TimelyCare, UVU students have FREE, 24/7 access to remote mental health services. TimelyCare is a virtual health and well-being platform designed for college students and offers health coaching, scheduled counseling, chatline support, and more. Your mental health is crucial to your success in and out of the classroom, and with TimelyCare, you can access care on a flexible schedule that fits your needs.
TimelyCare is completely free, and students do not need insurance to access services.
Within the UVU community, misunderstandings and disagreements that need resolution are bound to happen. The UVU Ombuds is familiar with campus policies, students' rights and responsibilities, and can help find useful options within these guidelines. In order to serve as a mediator, as opposed to an advocate, the Ombuds neutrally and objectively listens to all problems. As an online student we encourage you to use this resource if you encounter a difficult situation, dispute, or campus-based conflict.

Membership is free for students enrolled in 10 or more credits, but you must sign up to activate your membership.
